The month of March has only one race with limited participation, so we have added a virtual run. It is a bit different, but gives everyone a chance to get out and participate. Find a course with some hills and run about four miles. I will need time and distance for results along with age and name. Below are some suggestions for great trail runs, but you may use any trail you wish.
This is the Elk River Trail in the Headwaters Forest Reserve. It is an out-and-back trail located in South Eureka. The trail is located at the end of Elk River Road.
The Avenue of the Giants is a fairly long drive for a run, but is one of the nicest running locations anywhere. There are trails in many locations, and the road makes a nice run.
Simona Carini ran through Patrick's Point State Park, mostly on the Rim Trail for 6.51 miles.
Jim Childs ran 5.46 miles through the Arcata Community forest and thought you might like to try the course.
Grace Driscoll ran in Trinidad on a 4.05 mile trail run, including College Cove and Trinidad Head. It's a beautiful run on a nice day. Don't forget to reward yourself with a latte at The Beachcomber.
Trevor Estlow ran the South Fork of Janes Creek for his Trail Run this month, his first 2021 Circuit Run. It looks like a nice route in Arcata.
Richard Engel suggested this course. He recommends doing the loop in the direction shown, as doing it the other way would make for some slippery downhill on the single-track section of the South Fork Janes Creek trail, under current rainy season conditions. 4.16 Miles.
The McKay Track has a lot of running room. You can access the trails from Harris Street near Redwood Acres.
Patrick's Point State Park has a number of roads and trails. The Rim Trail is a beautiful run along the rugged coast. It's fairly flat and will have people on the trails, especially on the weekends. The park is located north of Trinidad.
This is a world-class running, hiking and biking location. It makes for a nice run rain or shine. There are many trails to run, but there will be people, especially on the weekends. The park is located north of Orick.
This a small park, but has a challenging forest run. It will take a couple of loops to get four miles, but it is a pretty run. There will be people on the trails.
This is also a small park and very hilly, but also a pretty run. There are always people here, but some of the trails can be fairly clear. It is next to the zoo.
There are nice trails along the coast in Trinidad, including the Trinidad Head Trail. If you locate a map, you will find that the trails connect so you can easily complete a four-mile run.
